Diverse Community Connections

Diverse community connections

For Social Fabric Institute Inc., community connection is about establishing and strengthening ties between people. Social Fabric Institute has ties to various cultural communities and folks with different lived experiences and we take pleasure in connecting people with organizations that hope to learn from their perspectives and lived experiences.

Building diverse community connections is imperative for government departments and agencies, and for anyone operating in the non-profit, service organization, or private sectors. It can be difficult, particularly when working from silos, to create meaningful programs or build initiatives that are welcoming and inclusive. By building diverse community connections, organizations can gain the perspectives of people living different experiences to their own.

How diverse community connections can be built

How a business or organization approaches building more diverse community connections is dependent on where they currently are, the existing diversity of their workforce, and their specific goals. Among other modalities, Social Fabric Institute Inc. facilitates training, conducts research, and convenes panels with the aim of achieving clients’ diversity goals.

After engaging in a conversation with an organization, Social Fabric Institute reaches out to folks whose cultural backgrounds or lived experiences the organization would learn from. The aim of this process is to:

  • Help communities or organizations better understand an issue from the perspective of someone living that experience

  • Reduce apprehension around difference

  • Increase comfort when encountering and interacting with folks different than oneself
